Day Five.

Mer spent the ENTIRE day outside in her corner of the yard, relaxing in the sun. She got up a few times to sniff the new girl, Patsy, to check out the pool, and to follow Sylvie around- but most of her Sunday was spent sleeping in the sun.

Day four.

Mermer continues to improve. I still cannot look at her fully, walk directly towards her, or pet her really- but she's improving. She spent the morning in the yard, in her corner, napping. I've taken the long line off of her collar because she is now responding to me asking her to come inside. I ask her once, walk towards her a little bit, make eye contact, then walk away. She follows. But, if I glance back at her or she catches me sneaking a look in her direction- she takes off running, scared to death.
This afternoon we all came in from the heat for a nice Saturday nap. Mermer is getting better about going through doorways, and actually slept on the floor next to my dresser! While most won't find this fascinating, it's wonderful news to me! She is slooooowly starting to trust me enough to leave herself "exposed" just a little.

Day three.

Mermer still does not know what to think about her new life. At times, I see hints of her coming out of her shell, but at other times all I see is still the scared girl, running away.
Around 3:30 am this morning, I heard her paw at her crate door- she was telling me she had to go out! So, we went out, she did her thing, then she promptly followed me back up the stairs and into her crate! Wow.
She spent most of the day again today in the groom room, napping in a crate and keeping an eye on everyone. She finally ate her dinner this evening, then napped again, and then followed the gang outside for about an hour of romp time. She still keeps her distance from me, but has actually started to follow my Sylvie around. Mermer very much needs to feel protected, and I think she's starting to seek that out in the other dogs. Another big thing she did today was take a cookie from my hand! Her new favorite place to sleep, besides her crate, is in my bathroom ontop of my dirty clothes that she's taken from the hamper.
MerMer has  a long way to go, but she'll get the hang of it!

Day two.

Our morning started out a lot like yesterday was. She is still petrified of any kind of touch, especially if it involves her rib area. She is starting to accept the leash more, but if I turn to look at her while we're walking, she will stop dead in her tracks and try to run away. She spent the morning in the groom room, listening to sounds, and pretending that she was napping. I took her to the yard again a little bit ago, and she did use the restroom-finally! I also put her on a longer line to give her a little more freedom and to see how she would use it. Of course, she ran away from me and to the far corner where she tried finding a way out. After I got her back, she actually sat beside me for a bit in the shade and watched, terrified, as the other girls ran around like crazies and chased birds. She's now back in the airconditioning, enjoying the safety of her crate.

Meet Mercury.

Mercury just had her 9th Birthday a few days ago, most likely around the same time she, and a few other older Weims, were dumped at a shelter in Kentucky by their "breeder." At this point I'm not even sure you can call this sweet girl a dog. She acts like she's never been touched before, on a leash, or even walked in grass. She is too petrified of everything around her that all she wants to do is runaway.  When I try to get her to go anywhere, she frantically looks around for anything to crawl under or hide behind. I couldn't resist giving her a bath tonight because she was pretty stinky. I also picked off a few more ticks (7 total) and trimmed her nails in case she decided that she would like to walk around a little easier.  I then carried her upstairs, where she immediately bolted for the smallest crate in the corner, where she's been hiding since.
